What is D.O. it! PDF Print E-mail

D.O. it! is a project inspired by the tragic loss of Dylan Ellis and Oliver Martin. On June 13th 2008, Dylan and Oliver lost their lives to gun violence in the downtown core of Toronto.

Violent crimes, specifically involving hand guns has become a rising issue in Toronto. In 2007 there were 802 attempted murders reported, and from 2006 to 2008, 456 people have been shot in Toronto alone.

Toronto is home to a number of pro-active programs geared to fight these ever-growing statistics, from youth violence prevention organizations to Mayor Miller's petition to ban hand guns. D.O. it! is designed to centralize these initiatives and act as a resource for connecting people, specifically youth, to these organizations, their volunteer opportunities and upcoming events to support.

D.O. it! recognizes the power of music and photography, and aims to inspire, combat hate and promote peace through these mediums.

D.O. it! has teamed up with two leading not-for-profit youth violence prevention organizations, Leave Out Violence (www.leaveoutviolence.com) and Peace Builders International (www.peacebuilders.ca). The collaboration of D.O. it! along side PEACE and LOVE has been a natural and positive process. D.O. it! is a creative project that produces and executes events to generate the funding these organizations need to support their grassroots programs and break the cycle of violence.

D.O. what?

Get involved! Suggest ideas, funding prospects, volunteer or simply attend an event. This project is reaching out to the community and offering an outlet to help change the violent culture in Toronto.

Both Leave Out Violence and Peace Builders International offer programs targeting youth afflicted by violence. D.O. it! provides information on the programs and their success. www.DOit-now.ca is also a website designed to bring discussions about violence to the forefront, get Torontonians talking, involving, acting and DOING.

In addition, visitors to the site can learn about recent statistics and take part in actionable solutions to make our streets safer.

D.O. it! is a new and young project, which kicks off on November 30th 2008 with its premiere event at Tattoo Rock Parlour L.O.V.E. lockdown.
Over time D.O. it! aims to grow and reach the community in a young and fresh way with more events to follow in 2009.

Stay tuned and thanks for stopping by.
